Phew, we’ve made it – tomorrow is officially the first day of spring! And while I can’t pack away the thermal undies and electric blankie just yet, the mere thought of spring is enough to get me celebrating. But there’s more to 1 September than Spring Day – it also happens to be national Cap Classique Day! So I’ll be doing that celebrating with a bottle of bubbly. Need some inspiration? Check out these bubbly spring beauties…

Krone: Vintage Rosé Cuvée Brut 2020.

Krone Vintage Rosé Cuvée Brut 2020 – Crafted on the historic Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate in the Tulbagh Valley, this Rosé is a blend of 92% Pinot Noir and 8% Chardonnay. Grapes were hand picked in the cool of night and only free-run juice was used to make this wine. It’s the prettiest girlie gossamer pink with a fragrant and lush nose of wild berries, climbing strawberry vines and the persistent undertone of night lily open to the moon. Grounding this ethereal bouquet is the mineral scent of moist clay. On entry to the palate, waves of cleansing citrus, blood orange and mandarin coalesce to a bright-fruited core of raspberries, strawberries, cranberries and white peach. The wine tapers off into a dry, strawberry-kissed finish. Yum. It retails around the R190 mark.
