I don’t need much of an excuse to pop the cork on a bottle of something fine. I need even less of an excuse to pop delectable morsels into my mouth. Promise me both those things and you have my attention. And so it is with the annual Cellarbake festival at Nitida wine farm in the Durbanville wine region. Now in its second year, it combines a showcase of awesome baked goodies paired with some very fine wines.

Baking gurus like Queen of Tarts, Whipped, Arugula Bistro and Bread and Whimsical Cupcakes will be there to wow us. Think rich chocolate cupcakes with chocolate ganache. Think mocha cake with Swiss meringue buttercream. Or how about red velvet brownies. Got your attention yet?

This is not a pull-in-taste-the-goodies-and-leave event. Nope, bring a picnic blanket and make a day of it because delectable savouries will also be on offer. Add a bottle of Nitida’s very fine Sauvignon Blanc or Semillon and I’m a happy chappie. There’ll be loads of fun things for the kids to do too – from jumping castles, to face painting and boat trips across a little lake, responsibly done of course with (hopefully dashing) lifeguards in tow.

It takes place at the Cassia wedding venue at Nitida so, if you’re looking to tie the knot, you’ll also be able to pick up some fab wedding ideas. Tickets cost R100 per person and this buys you five bake and wine pairing experiences. If you’re just after the baked goodies, ticket prices are only R50 per person. Book online now at Webtickets.

P.S. If you’re wondering who the gorgeous lass in the pic at the top of this post is, it’s Candice Bowler from Whipped Patisserie.

About this article: I only write about places and things I actually really like. Should I receive complimentary meals/tickets/diamonds, this will always be revealed. I’m not in the rubbishing business, so if something is not my cup of tea, I’ll simply not write about it (but I’ll keep the diamonds). Therefore this is not so much a review, as a personal recommendation of places and things I like. Living in Cape Town, I focus mainly on the Western Cape, and I can only cover so many places (there is that troublesome thing of trying to make a living, after all). This is where I need your help. Please share your favourite markets, festivals, restaurants and wine tasting experiences from all over the country with others by using the ‘COMMENTS’ section below.
